Fast ion bombardment
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004354
Ionization of a solid or liquid sample by a focused beam of ions with translational energies of several thousand electronvolts, such as Cs+. When the sample is a liquid, often a non-volatile matrix such as glycerol, the process is the same as liquid secondary ionization. It is a soft method that mainly yields protonated or deprotonated molecules of polar, non-volatile compounds.
