Field effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004409
The influence of a substituent on the reactivity or physical properties of a molecule through space, without involving electron delocalization or bond polarization. This effect arises from the electrostatic interaction between the charge or dipole of the substituent and the reaction center. It is distinct from the inductive effect, which operates through sigma bonds.
