Mesomeric effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007216
The electronic effect transmitted through a conjugated system, involving the delocalization of pi electrons or lone pairs. This effect describes the polarization of a molecule due to the presence of substituents that can donate or withdraw electrons through resonance. It is represented by drawing multiple resonance structures for a molecule.
