Electromeric effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003699

A temporary electronic effect involving the complete transfer of a shared pair of pi electrons to one of the bonded atoms under the influence of an attacking reagent. This effect is observed in unsaturated compounds and is reversible upon removal of the reagent. It is distinct from the inductive effect, which involves permanent polarization of sigma bonds.
