Field ionization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004410

An ionization technique in mass spectrometry that involves applying a very high electric field to a gas-phase sample. This strong field distorts the electron clouds of molecules, leading to the tunneling of electrons and the formation of ions. It produces molecular ions with minimal fragmentation.
