Electric current

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003629

The rate of flow of electric charge through a surface or a point in a circuit. It is defined as the amount of charge passing a given point per unit of time. The SI base unit for electric current is the ampere (A), which is formally defined by fixing the numerical value of the elementary charge to 1.602176634 × 10⁻¹⁹ when expressed in the unit coulomb, which is equal to an ampere-second.
