Ampere
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000512
The SI base unit of electric current, symbol A, fixed since the 2019 redefinition by giving the elementary charge the exact value 1.602176634 × 10⁻¹⁹ when expressed in coulombs, where one coulomb equals one ampere second. One ampere therefore corresponds to about 6.24 × 10¹⁸ elementary charges passing a point each second. Before 2019 it was defined through the force between two parallel current-carrying conductors.
