Molecular fragment
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007493
An ion or neutral species formed by the dissociation of a molecule, often as a result of ionization or other energetic processes. These fragments are detected in techniques like mass spectrometry, where the parent molecule breaks apart in a predictable way. The resulting mass spectrum, which shows the relative abundance of different fragments, serves as a fingerprint for identifying the original molecular structure.
