Dissociative ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003325
An ionization process in which a molecule gains or loses an electron, and simultaneously breaks into two or more fragment ions and neutral species. This often occurs when a high-energy electron or photon impacts a molecule, leading to both ionization and bond cleavage. It is a fundamental process in mass spectrometry.
