Precursor ion spectrum

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009364

A type of mass spectrum obtained in tandem mass spectrometry where a specific product ion is selected, and all precursor ions that fragment to yield this product ion are detected. This technique is used to identify compounds that share a common structural motif or to trace fragmentation pathways. It provides information about the parent ions of a chosen fragment.
