Product ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009505
An ion formed as a result of the fragmentation or reaction of a precursor ion within a mass spectrometer. This process is typically induced by collision with a neutral gas in a technique called tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The analysis of product ions provides structural information about the original precursor ion, aiding in molecular identification and characterization.
