Peptide fragment ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008605
An ion produced when a peptide precursor ion undergoes dissociation, typically through collision-induced dissociation, breaking specific peptide bonds. These fragment ions retain portions of the original peptide sequence and their mass-to-charge ratios provide information about the amino acid sequence. Common types include b-ions and y-ions, which result from cleavage at the peptide backbone.
