w-ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012705
A type of fragment ion observed in mass spectrometry, specifically arising from the cleavage of the peptide backbone. These ions are formed by a specific type of dissociation that involves the loss of a side chain and part of the backbone. W-ions are less common than b-ions or y-ions but can provide complementary structural information.
