Electron capture dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003713
A fragmentation method used in mass spectrometry where multiply charged gas-phase ions react with low-energy electrons, leading to the cleavage of chemical bonds. This process results in characteristic fragment ions that retain post-translational modifications. It is particularly effective for the structural analysis of large biomolecules like proteins.
