Fragment

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004636

A small molecule, typically with a molecular weight below 300 Daltons, used in fragment-based drug discovery. These low-complexity compounds are screened for weak binding to a biological target, such as a protein. Identified fragments that bind serve as starting points for building more potent and selective lead compounds through chemical modification or by linking multiple fragments together.
