photo-Fries rearrangement
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008869
A photochemical reaction in which aryl esters or amides, upon irradiation with ultraviolet light, rearrange to form ortho- and para-hydroxyketones or aminoketones, respectively. The reaction proceeds via homolytic cleavage of the acyl-oxygen or acyl-nitrogen bond, generating a radical pair. This rearrangement is distinct from the acid-catalyzed thermal Fries rearrangement.
