Photo-induced toxicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008878
The adverse effects on an organism caused by a chemical substance that becomes toxic only after exposure to light, typically ultraviolet radiation. This phenomenon occurs when a chemical absorbs light energy, leading to the formation of reactive species that damage biological molecules. Sunscreens are designed to prevent photo-induced toxicity to the skin.
