Induced reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005794

A chemical reaction that occurs only in the presence of another, simultaneously proceeding reaction. The primary reaction generates an intermediate species that then initiates or participates in the secondary, induced reaction. This phenomenon is often observed in redox systems where a fast reaction can trigger a slower one.
