Surface-induced reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011682
A chemical reaction that occurs when an ion or molecule collides with a solid surface, resulting in the formation of new chemical species. The collision provides the necessary activation energy for the reaction, which can involve fragmentation, association, or rearrangement of the incident species. This process is studied in mass spectrometry by directing an ion beam onto a target surface within the vacuum chamber.
