Collision gas
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002225
A neutral gas introduced into a collision cell or reaction chamber within a mass spectrometer. Its purpose is to collide with analyte ions, leading to energy transfer that can induce fragmentation or ion-molecule reactions. Common collision gases include helium, argon, and nitrogen, chosen for their inertness and collision properties.
