Collision quadrupole
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002227
A radiofrequency-only quadrupole mass filter used as a collision cell in tandem mass spectrometry. Ions are guided through this device while undergoing collisions with a buffer gas, leading to fragmentation. The RF field confines the ions radially, preventing their loss during the collision process, and it does not perform mass selection.
