Tandem mass spectrometry in space
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011810
A tandem mass spectrometry arrangement in which precursor selection, dissociation and product-ion analysis occur in physically separate regions, using two or more analyzers in series, as in a triple quadrupole or a quadrupole time-of-flight instrument. The first analyzer selects the precursor ion, a collision cell fragments it, and a second analyzer measures the products. It differs from tandem in time, where a single trapping analyzer carries out the steps sequentially.
