Triple quadrupole mass spectrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012291
An instrument that couples two transmission quadrupole mass spectrometers in series, separated by a radio frequency (RF) only quadrupole acting as a collision cell. The first quadrupole (Q1) selects a precursor ion, which is fragmented in the collision cell (q2), and the resulting product ions are then separated by the third quadrupole (Q3). This tandem-in-space configuration is distinct from a tandem-in-time instrument like an ion trap.
