Di-π-silane rearrangement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003243

A photochemical rearrangement analogous to the di-π-methane rearrangement, in which silicon replaces the central sp3 carbon between the two double bonds of a 1,4-diene unit. The two π-systems are therefore separated by a single silicon atom, the 3-position of the pentadiene chain. Like the carbon version, which converts 1,4-dienes into vinylcyclopropanes, it is initiated by excitation of one π-system.
