Chromophore

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002050

A specific group of atoms within a molecule that is responsible for absorbing light in the visible or ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The absorption of light by a chromophore leads to electronic transitions, which can result in the perception of color. Examples include conjugated double bonds and aromatic rings.
