Charge-transfer absorption
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001914
The absorption of electromagnetic radiation that results in the excitation of an electron from a donor orbital to an acceptor orbital, leading to a partial or complete transfer of charge between two molecular entities or within a single molecule. This process creates a transient excited state with a redistributed electron density. The absorption band is characteristic of the donor-acceptor interaction and often appears in the visible or ultraviolet region of the spectrum.
