Metal to metal charge transfer transition

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007250

An electronic transition occurring in polymetallic complexes where an electron moves from an orbital primarily localized on one metal center to an orbital primarily localized on another metal center. This type of transition is characteristic of mixed-valence compounds. It is often responsible for intense absorption bands in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
