Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007436

An abbreviation for metal to ligand charge transfer, referring to an electronic transition in coordination compounds. This process involves the excitation of an electron from a metal-centered orbital to a ligand-centered orbital. MLCT transitions are often responsible for the intense colors observed in many transition metal complexes.
