An abbreviation for charge transfer, referring to a type of electronic transition where an electron moves from one molecular entity to another, or from one part of a molecular entity to another part. This phenomenon is observed in charge-transfer complexes and is responsible for their characteristic absorption bands in the visible or ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
