Ligand to metal charge transfer transition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006573
An electronic transition in a coordination compound where an electron moves from an orbital primarily localized on the ligand to an orbital primarily localized on the central metal atom. This process results in a temporary decrease in the oxidation state of the metal. Such transitions are responsible for the intense colors observed in many transition metal complexes.
