Ligand-activated channel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006574
A type of ion channel that opens or closes in response to the binding of a specific chemical messenger, known as a ligand, to a receptor site on the channel protein. This binding induces a conformational change in the channel, allowing ions to pass through the cell membrane. Neurotransmitters often act as ligands for these channels.
