Metabotropic receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007248
A type of membrane receptor that acts through a secondary messenger when a ligand binds to it. Unlike ionotropic receptors, it does not form an ion channel pore but instead initiates a cascade of intracellular signals. A common mechanism involves the activation of a G protein, which then modulates the activity of other proteins, such as enzymes or ion channels, leading to a slower but more prolonged cellular response.
