Ligand-gated ion channel
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006576
A type of transmembrane protein that opens to allow ions to flow across a cell membrane when a specific chemical messenger, known as a ligand, binds to it. This binding event induces a conformational change in the protein, altering its permeability. Neurotransmitters like acetylcholine activate these channels in synapses.
