Death receptor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013016

A cell surface receptor that initiates programmed cell death (apoptosis) upon binding to its specific ligand. These receptors are members of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily and contain an intracellular death domain. Activation of these receptors leads to a cascade of events involving caspases, ultimately resulting in the dismantling of the cell.
