Death domain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013015
A protein interaction module, approximately 80 to 100 amino acids long, found in proteins involved in apoptosis and inflammation. It facilitates signaling by mediating homotypic or heterotypic interactions between members of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily and their downstream adaptor proteins. For instance, the death domain of the Fas receptor binds to the corresponding domain in the FADD adaptor protein, initiating a signaling cascade that leads to programmed cell death.
