Fas
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004347
A transmembrane protein that functions as a death receptor on the surface of cells, also designated as CD95 or APO-1. When this receptor is bound by its corresponding ligand (FasL), it triggers a signaling pathway that results in apoptosis, or programmed cell death. This process is a key part of immune system regulation, including the elimination of self-reactive lymphocytes and the killing of virus-infected or tumor cells by cytotoxic T cells.
