Granzyme
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005002
A family of serine proteases found in the granules of cytotoxic T lymphocytes and natural killer cells. These enzymes are released into target cells, such as virus-infected cells or tumor cells, where they induce apoptosis (programmed cell death). Granzymes, particularly granzyme B, act in conjunction with perforin to eliminate compromised cells.
