Lymphotoxin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006848

A cytokine, also known as tumor necrosis factor-beta (TNF-β), produced and secreted by activated lymphocytes, particularly T cells. It acts as a mediator of inflammatory and immune responses by binding to specific cell surface receptors and initiating a signaling cascade within the target cell. Lymphotoxin is involved in the development of lymphoid organs and can induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) in certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells.
