Death rate
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002886
The number of deaths occurring in a particular population over a specified period of time, expressed as a proportion of that population. It is a fundamental measure in toxicology and epidemiology for quantifying the mortality effects of a substance or condition. The death rate is calculated by dividing the total number of deaths by the total number of individuals in the population at the midpoint of the time interval, then multiplying by a factor (e.g., 1,000) to state the rate per capita.
