Mortality study
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007587
An epidemiological investigation that examines the causes of death in a specific population over a defined period. These studies compare the death rates of a group exposed to a potential hazard, such as a chemical in the workplace, with the death rates of a comparable unexposed group. A common metric calculated in such studies is the standardized mortality ratio (SMR), which compares the observed number of deaths in the study group to the expected number.
