Charge-stripping reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001913
An ion-neutral reaction in the gas phase in which the reactant ion gains positive charge, usually when a fast ion collides with a neutral target gas and loses one or more electrons. In a mass spectrometer, for example, a singly charged ion of several keV that passes through a collision gas can emerge as a doubly charged ion, which is then analysed.
