Partial charge exchange reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008480
A gas-phase ion-neutral reaction in which a multiply charged ion captures one electron from a neutral molecule, so its charge is lowered but not removed. For instance, a doubly charged ion becomes singly charged while the neutral partner becomes a singly charged ion. The electron moves as a whole unit, and the word partial indicates that the ion keeps some of its charge.
