Ion/ion reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006118
A process in mass spectrometry where gas-phase ions of one polarity react with gas-phase ions of the opposite polarity. These reactions can involve proton transfer, electron transfer, or ion adduction, leading to a change in the mass-to-charge ratio of the reactant ions. Ion/ion reactions are frequently employed in electrospray ionization mass spectrometry to reduce the charge state of multiply charged ions.
