E/2 mass spectrum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003539
A mass spectrum obtained by detecting doubly charged ions formed from singly charged ions by charge stripping in a collision cell. With the electric sector field set to half the value that transmits the main ion beam, only ions having half the kinetic energy per charge pass, which selects the doubly charged products. Scanning the magnetic field then records a spectrum of those products, which also maps the singly charged ions that gave rise to them.
