Ion kinetic energy spectrum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006085
A plot showing the distribution of ion abundance as a function of the translational kinetic energy per unit charge. It is obtained by scanning the electric sector field in a double-focusing mass spectrometer while keeping the magnetic field constant. This spectrum provides information about the kinetic energy released during unimolecular or collision-induced dissociation of ions, which is characteristic of the fragmentation process.
