Ion laser
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006086
A type of continuous-wave gas laser in which the gain medium is a plasma of noble gas ions, such as argon or krypton. An electrical discharge excites the gas, creating a population of positive ions that serve as the lasing species. These lasers produce multiple emission lines in the visible and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum, with common argon-ion wavelengths being 488.0 nm and 514.5 nm.
