Liquid excimer laser
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013240
A liquid laser in which excimers formed in a condensed noble gas serve as the active medium. An excimer emits from a bound excited state down to a repulsive ground state, so the lower level empties at once and population inversion is easy to maintain. The first excimer laser used electron-beam-pumped liquid xenon lasing near 175 nm, and later work used dilute xenon or krypton in liquid argon.
