Excimer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004174

A transient dimeric species formed between an excited state molecule and a ground state molecule of the same type. It is stable only in the excited state and dissociates upon returning to the ground state. Excimers typically exhibit a broad, structureless emission band at a longer wavelength than the monomer fluorescence.
