Exterplex

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004276

A termolecular excited-state complex, the three-component analogue of an exciplex, that is non-bonding in its ground state and emits from the excited complex. The name is discouraged in current photochemical nomenclature. An exciplex, by comparison, contains only two molecular components, one excited and one in the ground state, and shows a broad structureless emission band shifted to longer wavelength.
