Exciplex
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004179
A transient excited-state complex formed between an excited state molecule and a ground state molecule of a different type. It is stable only in the excited state and dissociates upon returning to the ground state. Exciplexes are characterized by a broad, structureless emission band at a longer wavelength than the fluorescence of either component.
